Now I know you can use the skills from the other classes as long as you have access to the skills on the class itself. My question is does that mean if I'm a arcanist and I'm using thaumaturge to cross class would it be best to lvl it up to 50 or is there only a minimum amount of skills I can use from that class? I know I get 3 in total every 10 lvls but I'm just wondering if it's similar to a subjob from XI like if my arcanist is 50 then I can only use my thaumaturge skills from 25 and below...

Arcanist can equip pretty much anything since it is a Class, but if you are talking about Summoner or Scholar then it looks like the highest ability you can use from Thaumaturge is level 26. No point in taking it to 50 if you don't enjoy it.
You don't get access to all the abilities of another class. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but it is a half job system too. So w/e class you are wanting to get abilities from, the main would need to be x2 that sub-s abilities level.
But leveling anything to 50 would help an other class/job you level up faster.

I don't think it's a half system. I used blood bath from marauder as a level 5 lancer. Pretty sure blood bath is a higher level.

It's the same level.
In phase 3, I was able to equip Provoke from Gladiator at a much lower level as a... PUG I think (I can't remember exact class)? It was strange, as a very low level job being able to put Provoke as a shared skill. I don't know if it was glitch or what, but I didn't know what to think of it.
