Question about Relic Weapon :: Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV, FF14)

When I reached 50 I got a Champion Lance and have been using it to finish the story. Afterwards I found out i needed the lance for relic weapon. Can I meld and turn in the bound lance or does it need to be a fresh unused lance?
