Is there a chart yet on what items convert into which kind of materia or is it really as random as everyone says it is? So far, I have only once converted the same item more than once and got the same materia from it each time. I have not done enough testing to really say if this is for sure or not though. So does anyone else have a guess as to how it works or should we all just sorta go into it blindly?
It's not random.
Crafter's equipment -> Crafter Materia (+Control, Craftsmanship, CP)
Gatherer's equipment -> Gatherer Materia (+Gather, Perception, GP)
DoW equipment -> DoW beneficial Materia (STR, DEX, VIT, +Determination, +Acc, +Crit Rate, +Skill Speed, +Parry) It actually gone quite more specific than that e.g tank equipment turn into VIT/Parry
DoM equipment -> DoM beneficial Materia (INT, MND, PIE, +Determination, +Acc, +Spell Speed etc.)
The resistance materia I don't quite sure know which but most likely come from Shield slot (?)

I've gotten an Earth Resistant Materia from a pair of Hard Leather Boots, so I'm guessing it can come from any number of armor slots? And if it is an all class item then it could be just about anything except crafter and gather materia?
I guess I should have been more specific. It isn't completely random but there are just a wide number of results you can get from each item and not just one type of materia for each specific gear? I suppose that makes sense but it also makes things a little more difficult. Thank you for clarifying for me though.

If it's an all item, it will be dependent on stat.
STR + VIT -> DoW, but gearing toward Melee (won't produce DEX)
DEX + VIT -> DoW, but gearing toward Ranged (won't produce STR)
Gathering/Perception -> DoL
Etc.
