City of Steam's Untimely Demise, Follow

Having never played a game hosted by Reality Squared Games (R2) I had no preconceptions when Machinst announced they had signed on with R2 for Hosting. I gave no credence to the dozens that moaned and wailed that R2 would be the death of City of Steam.

Since they launched the Open Beta, every single patch has included changes clearly designed to force players to spend more Electrum. And this was on top of the prices in the Electrum Shop that were there from the start. A single purple Jetpack (movement +125) will cost you almost $50. A Health or Steam Jab is $.20 but with the lastest Steam changes in the 1.3 patch a single skill uses 1/3 of your Steam and they removed all Steam Leech items to force you to burn dozens of Steam Pots or Jabs in every single dungeon run.

Machinist continues to claim that R2 is not directing these changes, but I simply do not believe that anymore.

They created server 2 (S2) so that folks that had already spent Electrum on S1 would move to S2 and spend all over again. It is very clear now that this is their MO. When spending on S2 drops off they will start S3, merge S1 and S2, then do it all over again.

They are soft-launching the game so that they will not reset the servers. This means that they will not be refunding all the Electrum we purchased although we were told that all Electrum would be refunded after Beta Testing.

Now, I learn that Gab, Frank and Andrew have all left Mechanist (in protest, I presume). Since these three people were basically THE voice of Mechanist to the players, we can expect any real communication from the developer to stop.

Sadly, R2 is doing their best to destroy this game. Machinist got sold a bill of goods when they signed up with R2. I guess they missed the fine print where it says "We will rape your playerbase and squeeze them for every cent, then leave them with such bad memories of your game that no one will every trust any game you create ever again."
