Eorzea on PS3 2B in 3D

UPDATE: Final Fantasy XIV was part of a tech demo, showcasing Sony's 3D technology, but there are no solid plans to include 3D support for the title itself.

Here are some retina-destroying images of FFXIV 3D in action -- probably look much better with the 3D effect.

According to a live report by Engadget, Sony predicts that 20% of TVs sold next year will support 3D, and it looks like FFXIV will be poised and ready to take advantage of this growing market.  As for a release date, the final slide still shows FFXIV is set for "March 2011," though the press release distributed at Eorzea Prelive has at least narrowed this down to "early" March.

3D can add more to one's movie and gaming experience. I tried the new nVidia beta drivers to check out how SE's doing 3D, and it's very good. To me, the step from 2D to 3D carries more impact than the step from SD to HD. It's not going to make a bad game good all of a sudden, but it can make a good game even better.
3D ... not for me!

I have no plans to get a 3D tv. 3D messes with my eyes too much.

Yep. It works great if you have good eyesight and don't mind wearing funky glasses. If you have one eye significantly weaker than the other (as I do), you get very little bonus depth out of it. At least the new glasses don't prevent me from being able to watch stuff though. :)

I wonder how long this particular fad will stick around?
