FFXIV Windower Shut Down

Square Enix ordered the WindowerXIV team to cease and desist.

If you planned on using the Windower tool to play Final Fantasy XIV, then you might be in for a wait. The WindowerXIV site was shut down indefinitely after the site's owners received a cease and desist letter issued by Square Enix.

A statement on Windowerxiv.com says a new windower is in the works that won't be tied specifically to FFXIV. Rather, the new windower will work with every DirectX 9 and 10 game and contain "a powerful plugin interface with Windows XP support." Square Enix is well known for protecting its intellectual properties, and presumably the new windower wouldn't infringe upon the gaming companies trademarked products.

The windower tool has been used by countless players in Final Fantasy XI, partially because the game existed for years before Square Enix added a windowed mode.

However, the use of windower has always been a lightning rod of debate for FFXI players. Many have said the windower tool significantly enhanced their gaming experiences. Others criticize windower for being a third party tool capable of providing numerous advantages that are not available to other players. The FFXI terms of service strictly prohibits the use of third-party tools, but Square Enix was never known to ban anyone for using the tool.

Perhaps the news about the FFXIV windower is evidence of where Square Enix plans to stand on the issue from now on.

For those of you who don't know how to adjust the size of FFXIV in window mode you have to change your resolution size win the configuration. Valadriant, if you do like I said which is change the resolution size it will not cut off any part of the FFXIV window. If you set it to your screen size it will cut parts of the FFXIV window, but if you set it at a lower resolution it wont. I have a 1920x1080 screen resolution monitor, when I play FFXIV in window mode, I have it set to 1280x1024 and it fits with no cut off or any issues.

Manathos, PS3 players WILL be on the same servers as the PC players. It will be just like FFXI where pc, PS2(PS3 if you downloaded the PS2 partition file) or 360 players were all on the same server. So with that said PS3 players will be playing with PC players come March when the PS3 version is released.

Im not sure if the ps3 players will be playing on the same servers as the pc players but maybe they figured the pc players have an advantage in alt tabbing although the ps3 players will have an unused pc at their disposal.
Or maybe they just want to sell alot of their strat guides when they finaly release them.. In any case its their fault for not giving us any information on the game in the manual or in the game, it took me awhile just to figure out what the attributes even do.

I'd love to have a full screen mode able to ALT+Tab out since I need full screen in order for Crossfire to work. similar to StarCraft II and how it works :)

Why don't the FFXIV team simply learn to program correctly? There wouldn't be any windower needed.

I can understand the company not wanting 3rd party apps to help eliminate the possibility of cheating. The problem is that if you're in fullscreen you can't alt-tab to look up info as stated previously, and the windowed portion doesn't fit in the screen quite right. Every game in Windows should have the ability to alt-tab without crashing while in fullscreen. My question is this: If a company makes it so their game can't be minimized to see other screens without a 3rd party program, are they infringing on the OSes usability? I personally have multiple things going on at any given time. A game, a browser, a chat window etc. If I can't do these things simultaneously,it kind of defeats the purpose.

eagerly awaiting the DX9/10 windower. Nobody wants to infringe of SE's intellectual property, we just want to run non-windowed fullscreen without crashing when we try to look up EVERYTHING that hasnt be included in the game's context.

Can ff14 be run in windowed mode or not?

If not, I won't even consider getting it.

Just like XI, it can be run in full screen mode (but alt-tab causes you to crash) or windowed mode (with a border, not dynamically resizable)
