Alliteratively Announcing Additional Adjustments..

and Alterations

The newest topics post from The Lodestone introduces some of the balancing adjustments coming to in-game movement and the guildleve system in the November 24 version update.

Discuss in the ZAM Forums or read on for details!

Anima Costs

The anima cost incurred by the Return and Teleport commands has been halved.

This reduction applies to teleportation to the aetheryte plaza within any of the three city-states, as well as to any aetheryte camp set as one of a player's Favored Destinations. Up to three camps may be saved as Favored Destinations.

The cost of the Return command has also been halved, and now requires only one anima.

* Aetheryte plazas within cities cannot be set as Favored Destinations.

Guildleves

The November version update will introduce an option that allows players to change the difficulty setting for levequests that are currently underway. This option will be available only with those levequests for which players were able to assign a difficulty level at the onset, and can only be used to lower the setting. Balancing adjustments have also been made to the strength of enemies targeted by levequests, and the minimap has been reworked to continue to display these enemies regardless of differences in elevation in relation to the player. Furthermore, changes to leve linking will result in larger skill and experience point awards, and give individual party members the option to participate in the link.

With the December version update will come a number of new guildleves, including those that will provide players with the opportunity to face off against notorious monsters.

Still more changes are in store for behests and the loot system. Details will be released in future Topics posts.

Chocobos And Airships For AFKers

I think people forget about what Chocobos and Airships were really used for in Final Fantasy XI and will undoubtedly be used in the same way in Final Fantasy XIV. I would take the airship whenever I was going to be afk for a little while; whether it was for food, bathroom break or just to do some small errands around the house.

The same exact thing was done while riding a Chocobo. I would always toggle autorun while trying to path my Chocobo so that it ran in a decent straight line until I could come back to my computer. People that need to get somewhere quick would always use Outpost Warps and then their own personal Chocobo. It could be directly compared to Anima, granted you are not losing gil this time around.

At least this is how I compare it. Maybe I am wrong.
Anima cost & Leves

I actually think it is great that they are lowering to cost of Anima to Teleport. This will benefit all, though some people might not think so. I always thought 6 anima to travel from one region to another was too high. I mean there are going to be players who even w/ the new lower cost will still run out of anima because they play that often or just bounce around that much. If you start doing the math, even if you only play every other day and teleport to each region every night you play, that semi casual gamer would run out of anima fairly soon with the old costs. About the whole chocobo making teleporting obsolete is absurd. I for one hate running to a camp that is 2 zones away, granted it might cost less to teleport with update, you will want to save that for going from region to region. This again, helps the more casual gamer who doesn't have the time to run to the zone. I think people are missing the point that it makes it a bit easier for the casual gamer, which is what SE wants, not making it easier for the people who are on ALL the time. Thanks SE.

So much complaining

Wow another thread of nothing but complaining. Think it woulod get old after awhile. And yet the wonders never stop coming. And no one really cares about the Crafters.. If they wanted to make this game funtional and balanced they would have made it as tough as possible for you to travel.. Making it much more necessary to purchase items from DoW/M. Who do you think is buying the stuff you make.. They go out grind get tons of mats that they either use to craft themselves or toss in the trash/NPC(thats what i do with it)This game has no economy at all right now.
So much complaining

Thats because a bunch of opinionated dorks with no life play this game and nothing but crap to say about the only thing in their life.
How many again?

K simply put return is 1, Currently in zone is 4 out of zone is 6. Their added capitols to the list of favorites in the sense which were suppose to be half already. At the top is says all Teleports. So is it just the favorites instead of all?

As other games as examples even a game with a rebust teleport system still requires you to travel to places. I think the chocbos will add a lot. As for the airships I feel the same as the current boat ride. It is nicer just to port "poof" and go onto what I was online to play.

Also the fact that crafters as stated above and War/Magic are required to travel to play makes lower cost better.

I wish it was just free myself.
But where are the chocobos and airships?

The problem with the anima system is that it was clearly designed with a working chocobo and airship network in mind. Now they're going to make porting frequently a lot more viable and I worry what's going to happen when we finally get what I assume to be the primary methods of travel. Will they be useless? Will we always travel by teleport, making the large world obsolete?

If they just had chocobos and airships when the game was released, they wouldn't have to waste time making fixes like this. I feel like all their resources are going into making quick fixes to issues that should never have been there. These are fixes that become obsolete when the design inevitably is changed to be less insane.

He never said that, read the post before spouting off non-sense. He said IT WILL be too easy to travel when these features get implemented. Not, "it is RIGHT NOW too easy to travel".

When Chocobos and airships eventually get implemented, then the teleportation system will be broken again. This could definitely be re-adjusted back, but a lot of the problems and complaints people are seeing are due to things NOT BEING FINISHED. So now they are back pedalling, making stupid changes that were not planned in the game design, to fix the stuff they didn't get done on release.

This is usually always the downfall in games, when game changes start to happen that modify the game design before the game even gets finished as it was intended. Alleviating these problems now, is going to make it too easy later.

Teleports are not even that bad right now, while the change is nice, I don't think it is needed. But this adjustment is fine until more means of transportation are implemented. But when they are implemented, Teleporting needs to be re-adjusted back to compensate, IMO.

If they shrink the world this early in this MMO by making easier to port every where.
How boring is it going to be, I can see the following taking place.
-port, leve
-port, leve
-port, leve
-port, leve
-port, leve
why play in a virtual world at all?

Walking isn't better; it's just slower!

Umm, that already does take place. Which is why the whole leve system is boring. Port/walk, leve ... is the only content in the game currently, and it is incredibly bland, and dull. Especially when most everything is copy and pasted, leves and terrain.

Copy and pasted...like your complaint? It's been said a million times already. If you havent been paying attention the copy/paste landscape is because no other MMO has graphics of such high quality. One zone in FFXIV compared to a less graphic intensive zone of compareable size in another MMO takes up SO MUCH more memory. I don't know about you but I'd rather have some "copy and pasted" terrain then have to go buy a 1 TB Hard Drive just to hold the files for ONE GAME.

Reducing Teleport costs isn't so much for the DoW/M classes as it is for the Crafters and Gatherers. I am one of those people. I have to check all three cities every 36 hours for my leves so I can try to get guild marks, I have to tele out to farm my mats, then tele back when my invs full, then tele back. Walking isn't an option as it takes 2 hours sometimes to get to my farming locations. So I burn through so much anima I am forced to pay for teles. This alleviates the problem for us. As for you DoW/M classes...who cares about you...you can go to one spot and grind for hours and hours, and most of those spots are fairly close to cities anyway. (And as for inter-city travel, don't complain, you know it's a sigh of relief for you too.) Being able to tele around to check the MWs makes it even sweeter.

So let's cut the complaints, really, it's getting old.

AoC has graphics on par with FFXIV. Most definitely AoC's graphics use more graphics resources, considering FFXIV doesn't even have the capability of using shader model 4 or any of the DirectX 10 graphic features which AoC currently uses. And I don't see AoC full of landscapes that look like they've been freshly mowed like FFXIV, everywhere you go in AoC (outside of Khemi and it's desert region) there is dense ground vegetation with physics which requires a hell of a lot more processing power than the landscapes of FFXIV should ever legitimately require. And we won't even start with the highly realistic DX10 powered water of AoC vs. that of FFXIV, If it wasn't for poor engine optimization on the part of SE's devs, FFXIV in its current state would require much less hardware on its fullest settings than AoC does on its lowest. No copy-and-paste terrain to be seen in AoC, either. Funny, that.

And what argument are you going to use when both Guild Wars 2 and Tera come out and their graphics blow FFXIV's out of the water with no copy-and-paste terrain? I haven't personally seen Guild Wars 2 graphics outside of screens and vids, but I have seen Tera in action and it stomps FFXIV graphically.

Kinda like when SE said they couldn't remake FFVII as a full 3d game because it would be impossible to have HD towns for such a large scale rpg ( this was stated while they were giving their reasoning for not having towns in FFXIII), all the while forgetting that Hironobu Sakaguchi had already done it with Lost Odyssey and other rpgs were already out as well that had HD towns and other features common to modern JRPGs.

SE has a tendency lately to make themselves look like bumbling fools when they try to come up with excuses for stuff. And people like yourself help them along by trying to use their same lame excuses in defense of them.

So let's cut the ********* really, it's getting old.

Those claims were absurd when SE tried to use them, and they are still absurd now. Ask anyone with a CS degree. Or better yet, do some research yourself. No intelligent and knowledgeable person can believe those claims. Here's a shocker, SE was lying to save face.
"FFXIV graphics are good!", well duh. Guess what, computers have improved too! We're not running FF XIV on the same computers that were available when WoW was released! They're way more powerful.

FFXIV uses ~9 GB of harddrive space and ~650 MB of memory. I haven't seen a desktop being sold with less than a 320 GB harddrive and 3 GB of memory in ages. And those are bargain Walmart desktops!
