Exploring Eorzea: Aleport

The coastal hamlet of Aleport has survived pirates, monster raids and economic woes. Find out more about the town in Exploring Eorzea, our new series that delves into the lore of Final Fantasy XIV.

-Exploring Eorzea is a periodic feature taking a closer look at the people, places and lore of Final Fantasy XIV.

Life goes on in the tiny coastal hamlet of Aleport, a small but resilient town surrounded by towering cliffs on the southern shore of Western La Noscea.

Once one of many coastal communities, a band of pirates known as the Serpent Reavers burned those towns to the ground -- all except for Aleport. Perhaps hardened by their rough lives on shipping vessels, the residents of Aleport stood their ground against the Reavers, turning them away and saving their hamlet. No doubt the citizens of Aleport were aided by the town’s natural defenses; a ship could hardly sail through the town’s impenetrable cliffs without being an easy target for weaponry on the shore.

Discuss this in the ZAM forums!

Today, Aleport produces some of the most rugged brews in Eorzea. Shipping vessels depart from the hamlet regularly, delivering salt brew to bars and taverns throughout the land. Back in Aleport, the town’s residents pray to the goddess Llymlaen for the safe return of their loved ones. O’adebh, a Miqo‘te, stands on the end of a dock each day, waiting for her husband to return from his voyage.

With their livelihoods tied to the sea, the people of Aleport seem to worship Llymlaen above the other 11 deities of Eorzea. Llymlaen, who is the daughter of Thaliak (the guardian diety of Sharlayan) and the elder sister of Nophica (the guardian diety of Gridania), is the watcher of the seas and the goddess of navigation. The people of Aleport respectfully call her “the Navigator.” In the rolling surf, a young Lalafell named Bubusha collects shiny rocks, which his mother believes are gifts from the Navigator. Away from the shore, an Elezen by the name of Duchesnelt says he superstitiously offers Aleport’s finest rum to the Navigator whenever the seas roil. In older times, Duchesnelt implies more brutal sacrifices were offered in Llymlaen’s name.

The hamlet of Aleport has seen brighter days. Although the townspeople managed to turn away the Reavers -- referred to as “fishbacks” by the locals -- raiding hordes of Kobold forced many of the town’s shopkeepers to move to Limsa Lominsa. There was a time when Aleport was home to more than 20 different breweries, says Tsimh Panipahr, a Miqo’te standing outside what appears to be the town’s fishing guild. The few shops left in the town still offer reasonable prices for their wares, she said, but clearly she's concerned that the town's best days are behind it.

An influx of adventurers has helped keep the town going. One of the gate guards, a Miqo’te named Y’alabali, says all adventurers with gil in their pockets are welcome guests.

The people of Aleport remain a battle-hardened bunch, not by the clash of swords but by the everyday bouts with the sea. The salty breeze gives unparalleled flavor to the town’s trademark brew and fuels the spirits of the hardscrabble townsfolk. "There ain’t many men from the mainland who can stomach the brew, but then again, there ain't many men there of any sort!" laughs Immodest Mouse, a Roegadyn of the Sea Wolves tribe.

With so many voyages into the vast seas, some residents of Aleport see more distant lands than most Eorzeans could ever dream of. While the children of the town play along the rocky shore, they repeat stories from their elders about vast beaches to the east -- beaches so large that the people of those lands have never seen the ocean.

The young ones will have their shot at adventure; but for now, life goes on in Aleport, guided by the Navigator and forever linked to the sea.

How to you get to Aleport ? I have been able to enter other villages but not this one.

Do you need to go through a cave that leads down to the village ?
Towns Waiting For .....

the small towns are waiting for there creators. it seems they have shops and guilds the sign posts are evidence of that. there could also be a form of game mode taking place there.

something along the lines of Defend Aleport from The Reavers or (the buccaneers, because lets face it attacking a passenger ship gets old)

you have the Airship Docks, but no Airships
you have the Chocobo Renters, but no Chocobos
you have the Port Towns & Temples, but no life beyond the scripted guards and NPC's

the making of content is there, why its taking them so long to switch it on server side is beyond me.

Cool story bro!

If it doesn't do anything there's no need to tell it's story.
the plot thickens

Thankyou ZAM team, nice description, I look forward to reading what you have to say about the other towns. While the game is still developing it's nice to see that we're able to use our imagination instead of wanting everything on a plate in high definition. I think that's the sole reason for the town, it's a breath of fresh air in an otherwise repetative landscape, and the sunset there is fantastic!

Seriously, kick it into gear.
It did not take the makers of FF11 THIS long to get it started to where it was actually enjoyable. I do, however, know that the previous team failed... a lot, and now we have a whole new team. I understand that, and recognize it, but even still... the new team has had... what, a month so far? And all we get is a inactive town? I know that FFXIV was supposed to be a whole new game, but still linear with FFXI, but seriously... I think a lot of the fans from FFXI just want FFXIV to be an upgraded, updated, bigger, better, louder, prouder version of FFXI. The new developing team: Bring us change... bring it now... stop making us wait...
Hell, if it'll make it easier for you guys, lock all the servers, shut down the game, wipe what the previous team had, and start ALL OVER. "Lalafell"? What crap is that? Bring us back the good old, lovable name of "Tarutaru", and the other races' names.
I've always had faith in Square, no matter if it were Enix, Soft, Square itself, or whatever the other one was... Please do not ruin my faith in you guys now... :/ I know you guys can create a new game...
Just. kick. it. into. gear.
This must be an early April Fool's article

There's nothing there. The place is empty except for a few placeholder NPCs. Are the developers going to translate their prose into quests? Action? In-game story? Anything at all? What a horrific joke.
Empty space

Well for now this and the other city's w/o a crystal are just ways to fill empty space imo... I would love for SE to do something with them, quest, battles, a specialty shop or in the case of aleport , i dont know some legendary fish can only be fish here and you need to travel all the way here for a little change at it...I did like the article about it. Ty ZAM team for it...

for now this and all others cities will remain just empty space with buildings and no mobs ,lol

I always like reading about the lore of towns like this. It made me reminisce about the little towns in FFXI, such as Selbina, Mhaura, and Norg. Those were some of my favorite places to go and chill in the game.
geez

I give up

No content = no game

Sad Days, I loved FF

Maybe one day they'll fill the hole that is 14 with a storyline, quests and most importantly, subscribers.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 19 2011 at 7:49 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You know what SE! Give up. Players should not have already been waiting this long for some supposedly! new content that we will still supposedly be waiting for.
Well...

Even if I agree with Glanseman, I still keep a positive mind about it.
Things are pretty grim and nothing is really happening in those hamlet, but thay have spoken of things they intend to implement (was there a protect the hamlet style thing?).
Let's just hope it doesn't come too late to save the game

Still enjoy visiting new places though ^^

anything to do there???

So what's this place good for?
Any behests going on there?
Crafting culinarian drinks in the full moon gives you HQ there?
In all other Final fantasy games (Haven't played ffXI though) something happens if you explore a new village. Something that takes the storyline one step forward or maybe a sword can be found in one of the barrels. Maybe if you talk to Y’alabali and give him 14 blood worms he will give you the ultimate weapon for leatherworkers. Or maybe even a nice FMV. That would be something worth paying a visit to aleport for.

Sorry about sounding negative, but I really miss some FF stuff i've always taken for granted.
