Gear Condition and Damage

Q.
What happens when my gear suffers damage and the condition worsens?

A.
Certain gear stats, such as attack and defense (see chart below), will decrease as an item sustains damage and it's condition worsens, lessening the benefits it provides to the character equipping it.

Gear Condition-dependent Stats
Discipline of War & Magic Arms Attack, Potency
Discipline of the Land Tools Gathering, Output
Discipline of the Hand Tools Craftsmanship, Magic Craftsmanship
Armor & Accessories Defense, Magic Defense, Evasion, Resistances (eg. Slashing 3%, etc.)

Q.
What are the Gear Damage and Heavy Gear Damage statuses I sometimes see?

A.
These statuses reflect the current condition of one or more pieces of equipped gear. When an item's condition falls below 50%, a character will be afflicted with the Gear Damage status. Should further damage be sustained without repairing, the Heavy Gear Damage status will appear, indicating that an equipped item's condition has fallen below 20%. As with other statuses, the icons will appear in the upper portion of the screen. Currently, gear stats will decrease at a certain rate up until the Heavy Gear Damage status appears, after which point they will decline much more rapidly.

Q.
My arms always seem to get damaged so quickly. Why?

A.
There are currently changes planned that will balance the rate at which gear condition worsens. This will affect not only arms, but also tools, armor, and accessories.

if they could create a repair tool instead of usin craft skill, that would be awesome, since u dont get much exp from repairing...just like the elder scroll, and all u need is find the right material.

I wish they stated how severely those stats are affected. Most people can't eyeball a difference when they're at just regular gear damage.

It would be nice if the damage was shown on your stats so it was yellow and you knew thats what the damage was affecting and how much attack and defense you were actually getting now. Same as it should be with eating food and getting green colors to show what its affecting. jmo.

if there gear actually changed based on its condition for instance yellow status the gear would look rusty or dented(Plate&Chain) or dirty or worn(cloth&leather) Shields would look Scarred and weapons would have nics and notches

at Condition Red the armor (Plate&chain) could have pieces missing could be breached (sword hole)or could just look flaky and dented. cloth&leather
could be torn and ripped and pieces missing.

Shields would look Breached with dents and scars, Weapons would be missing componets.

then i wouldn't mind gear damage as it stands it does nothing but make frustration an annoyance, lancer and gladiator arms break way to dame fast. while marauder can get 20+ levels without any weapon breaking. all other classes sit in between those 2 in terms of breakage.

Please slow down how quickly Sh@t breaks. I go and craft for 8 leves and the next thing I know all my gear is broken or about to be broken. I can go out and fight 8 battles leves and its not even close to broken. Crafting seems too take way too much out of the condition of gear. Idk maybe its just me.

This is weird. Are you wearing equipment same rank or lower than your own? If you are, then it shouldn't be breaking. If you aren't, that's the reason.

Its equipment lower than my level but it still breaks down very fast. I cant say i'm suprised, i'm enjoying the game but things like equipment damage sucks, i spend too much time having to get LS members to repair. I suppose it could be worse, I could be like my wife and not regain Anima at a normal rate and have SE do nothing about it.

Unfortunately they are being vague. This could mean that they are going to increase the rate at which armor degrades to match weapons and tools. All they've said is that it will be balanced.

I hope the planned changes work in our favor and we get increased durability.
