FFXIV Hot Read Thursday

Check out the hottest topics from the past week of the FFXIV general forum.

Although I haven't been playing much Final Fantasy XIV lately -- though I did ding rank 30 on my gladiator last night -- I still check the forums anytime I'm online. Right now, I feel we're still at a point at which there's more happening on the forums than there is happening in the game. This past week in the ZAM FFXIV General Forum, there were discussions about FFXIV for the Wii 2 (speculation, mind you) and recently posted lore on the Lodestone Web site. The Wii discussion made this week's Hot Read Thursday highlights, as did a couple of topics about gear variation and the number of people who have eclipsed more than 400 ranks among all of their classes. Did I mention I dinged rank 30 last night? Eh, I guess I have some catching up to do later.

Anyway, on with the links:

Title: FFXIV for Wii 2?

First a disclaimer: there is absolutely no evidence at this point of FFXIV being ported to the upcoming Wii 2. But we can dream, can't we? At this point, the one thing this game needs (other than a new battle system, more detailed quests, engaging content for all levels, etc.) is more players. Unfortunately, more players cannot simply be programmed into the game, which means a Wii 2 port (or any other port) will not happen without a strong turnout of Playstation 3 gamers.

Title: People with 400+ ranks total

Even writing about this thread makes me feel woefully inadequate. Look, I love level grinding as much as the next Final Fantasy nut, but the biggest reason why I haven't been playing FFXIV much lately is that I want to actually play the game it will become. That's not to say the game isn't fun as it is, but I'd rather wait and spend my time playing the final version of the battle system. That said, I can't blame others for wanting to get a head start. When those instanced dungeons are finally implemented, looks like a lot of people will be ready for them.

Title: Where's all the gear?

Now why would people care about gear in a MMO? Yes, I kid, I kid. Honestly though, I've been playing a lot of Final Fantasy XI lately, and whenever I log into FFXIV I'm stunned by the level of detail on my lowbie chainmail. However, perspective is everything. I imagine there are many rank 50 players in this game who have not had a reason to change their clothes in a long, long time (their toons, not them). Hopefully the upcoming instanced dungeons, and the treasures found within them, will put an end to this issue.

I love this guy. He's just like everyone else. They don't play much any more. Which really means they don't play at all.

If you aren't playing FFXIV "much" and are only rank 30 is kinda lame for you to be writting editorials on forum posts. Reason being how can you fully understand what people are discussing if you are only rank 30?

Keep in mind too, at rank 40 you are half way to 50.

It's ok though. I don't agree with the other posters. I have nothing against you. Love your honesty and posts with that being said. Just a little shocked to be honest.

Congrats on 30 gladiator Thayos! I recently hit 30 pugilist. If your on when I am on we can go on one of our crazy adventures :D Don't let people get you down for not playing a whole lot, take things at your own pace. The game is only gonna get better over time because its got tons of potential.

I admit that I'm not a big fan of your Editorials Thayos, as they are extremely subjective IMO. They always either sound extremely over the top positive, or(more often then that) extremely over the top negative.

But admitting that you don't play the game much/at all AND write those editorials seems just wrong to me.

I think that this admission of a staff member from ZAM, who is supposed to follow the game in all its aspects speaks volumes to the extremely long way XIV has to be worthy of its predecssor. That's what an editorial does, it reflects the community opinions to a certain degree, not ALL. If he was writing exposes or documentary pieces, then he couldn't afford to be quite as subjective.

In short, leave the guy alone, he's just doing his job. Apply for it if you don't like his opinions, because that's what they are.
