FFXIV Hot Read Thursday

Check out the hottest topics from the past week of the FFXIV general forum.

Strange things are happening in Eorzea lately. You've noticed it, haven't you? People have already written about the eerie silence over Thanalan, and the appearance of strange NPCs at camps. Well, the strangest thing happened to me today. I picked up a quest in Gridania that required me to kill some orobon mobs in the Black Shroud, so off I went. When I found my quest mobs, I killed a few before I agroed one too many, and suddenly I was taking a dirt nap. Here's where things get weird. I ran back to the quest mobs, and there was ANOTHER PERSON! No, not a GM-controlled NPC, but an actual player, in the Black Shroud, in the same spot as me! I would have screenshotted the moment, but I was overwhelmed by shock and awe. Anyway, the conjurer quickly dispatched the quest mobs, cast some buffs on me and then ran off into the woods. I stood there, dumbfounded, and then had to wait about 15 minutes for all the mobs I needed to repop.

What does this have to do with Hot Read Thursday? For the first HRT thread, my little story shows how there's more to do in the game than there used to be; for the second thread, my story shows that strange things are happening; and for the third thread, my story shows that -- even in the deserted lands around Gridania -- there are still players waiting for adventure.

Anyway, on with the links:

Title: I really want to come back...^^;

There have been several similar threads lately from people looking to return to Eorzea, and wondering whether the time is right. The OP of this thread even asks if it's too late to start playing FFXIV. Considering how easy it is to get to at least level 30 (I should know, because I AM level 30!), it's definitely not too late to get started. In fact, some people might argue that it's too soon to get started! That said, there's no harm in leveling some jobs, doing some quests and getting some experience. Getting a linkshell at lower levels can be difficult because of the extremely limited linkshell management options available to players. But, no, it's definitely not too late to start playing the game.

Title: Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn confirmed to be a female Roegadyn

Hold your horses... a female Roegadyn? This is interesting news, especially considering the moderators on Square Enix's official forums have already confirmed that developers are considering adding both sexes for all playable races. Of course, if we have a female Roegadyn in the works, then it's same to assume we'll have the FFXIV version of the manthra, too. A female Roegadyn? What else does Yoshi-P have up his sleeve?

Title: Letter from the Producer, IX (05/02/2011)

OK, so that's what else Yoshi-P has up his sleeve. After many bite-sized patches, the first round of entrees is set to arrive as early as mid-June. The main dish will be the first round of changes to the battle system, which is the primary change that many players (myself included) are waiting on before significantly boosting our time in game. Also on the way are instanced dungeons for rank 30 and 50 players, more Grand Companies of Eorzea involvement and new open world encampments that will serve as quest hubs. If the new battle system is as good as I hope it will be, then I won't have to worry about buying as much sunscreen this summer.

manthra

Playable characters for the manthra will definately bring people in. I know many people in FF11 are interested in the male mithra (I can already tell the Miqote population is going to explode even more. I would even consider making another character to explore these other sexes.

Now if only I could own my own Airship... :P
