Hello everyone! Yoshi-P here with another post for all you FFXIV-ers.

Last time I wrote something along the lines of wanting to talk about 1.19 in my next letter, but after all the feedback we’ve gotten from you since the last patch went live, I decided to write a letter addressing some 1.18 topics. Direct replies to forum posts would be quicker, sure, but with an official letter I can see to it word gets to all regions at the same time.

So 1.19 news will have to wait till next letter. I’ll try to get it out to you as soon as I can.

Patch 1.18 marked the start of radical changes to Eorzea, across a wide range of the game’s features. We updated a lot of things, and I’m wondering if maybe we didn’t go a little overboard. We were debugging and balancing along with the development tasks, and trying to have the patch out as soon as possible. But the dev team and I are only human, so there were bound to be mistakes.

I realize some of you may be confused or upset at some of the sudden changes, but that’s why the forums are there for you to have your voice heard. So please leave us your feedback!

The topics we’ve gotten the most feedback on are class balance, UI visibility (which will be addressed in 1.18a), and skill points for levequests between ranks 20–30. We’ll be using this last week’s worth of feedback to decide where more adjustments are needed, and will be working on them and any further balancing that is necessary together with our 1.19 tasks and releasing them in smaller patches.

But I’m happy to see posts claiming that combat now requires strategy (though this should go without saying), since this was the starting point for our changes to the battle system. After getting feedback like this, I hope we can work towards our future goals with the same results. We’ll be taking all your feedback, positive and negative, into account as we move forward. So please keep it coming!

It looks like about 280 people have cleared Dzemael Darkhold (as of Tuesday, July 26 at 2:00 a.m. PDT / at 9:00 a.m. GMT). But there are rewards you can’t get just by killing the last boss. Stick to it, though, and keep searching for the key to unlocking that additional treasure! (That’s a metaphor. It’s not an actual key...)

Talk to you next letter, or on the forums. See you soon!

P.S. The swimsuits I mentioned last letter will be available as part of the summer event planned for early August. Sorry for the confusion!

I'm getting 400 sp per mob at 3 min or less a kill. I'm rank 41. You're obviously doing something wrong. Also duo-ing leves at 5 stars gives 6k-7k sp at proper level and is 100% doable. I know, I've been doing it. You may want to get your fact straight or stop being lazy and actually PLAY the game. Find worthwhile sp camps, learn how to min/max what you're given(because it's more than enough), 40-50 is supposed to be tough. And you are complaining. The game has taken a MASSIVE turn for the better. And I've gained ranks faster than ever with the addition of beastmen camps.

1.18 was supposed to be the golden patch.

- extremely less SP for fighting classes
- behest time changed from 30 min to 1 hour = less SP
- 40+ gathering is an absolute nightmare, what were you thinking putting 8+ level 40+ mobs at all the nodes?
- 40+ gathering leves, see above for same info......

so aside from some good content what was golden about this patch?
- you can now SP without worry of hitting fatigue, not like you will ever hit it with fighting jobs the way it is now, but it is good for crafting.

So to sum up 1.18
+ Sp is a nightmare
+ 40+ gathering is a nightmare
+ Crafting wont hit fatigue

score 3 out of 10

not sure this impression is what you wanted to leave on people.

@Novak0877 your review of this patch misses several key factors that introduce much needed features, like auto attack. If they would have made it so you get SP for walking from town to town everyone would be in an uproar as well... Id say this patch is a 10 out of 10 for the direction it was in before Yoshi.

I am sure people will figure out an efficient way to farm xp.

Also level cap is still 50 so 40+ anything should be harder than 40-.

p.s. People need to just accept that development takes time.

Agree 100% w/ this... How did we find out about Puk parties in FFXI until ppl searched for them, tried them and got the word out eventually? Stop whining & start finding SP camps ^^...Leves/Behest are soooooooo boring by now.

you are telling me that fighting a mob more then 10 levels above, and receiving 180 SP per fight is acceptable... Development takes time, but they take the time to test it out before they launched it.

40+ gathering was already harder then -40 and considering at level 40 you are halfway to 50, making the last half with constantly degrading SP. Putting mobs on every node, even the leve nodes, is just plain stupid.

What i am saying is, why attempt to attract new players and have older ones stay and just **** them off.

I am not whining, I sated the facts that were implemented. And I am pretty sure that leves are the only way to get guild marks..... so boring nor not if you want them, thats where you get them. And for people who cant play in an SP party all day thats the only option there is to level these jobs. And like many others, I dont find them boring to do...

Puk areas werent even introduced until 7 years into the game of FF11... before that you had 7-8 parties fighting over the same mobs in the same areas, but at least they gave exp worthy of playing for.

Listen Darkstrx, my facts are straight jackass, at 23 con fighting a level 35 mob gets you 186 SP, and I have played the game, if you actually took a look at my sig you would have seen just that.
