Erdna the Sleeping Giant

Raid Encounter
Screenshot

Uploaded July 24th, 2007

Located in the far northwestern giant cave in The Steppes. You can wake him by hailing if you have at least 18 players in your raid and in the zone.

Single-target and AE rampages (both are mitigated to 4.5k max). Slowable. Has a 5k frontal ae, so keep him turned away from the raid.

Max hit is ~11,000 (triple attack with low accuracy), but averages for much lower on a decent geared tank.

He will feign-death for two seconds (which should be enough time for the main tank to re-establish aggro) everytime he loses 20% of his hp.

  • Maximum hit: 11,000
  • Slowable: Yes
  • Single-Target Rampages: Yes
  • AE Rampages: Yes
  • Triples: Yes

IOTM of Drinal killed this guy on our first go at him. 11/06/07
We pulled him out of cave which wasn't pretty. we let him go back to spawn
then fought our way to his room in cave and fought him there.
We turned him into the wall which helped with his frontal Knockback.
We cycled throu our tanks when one droped the next went in and a cleric battle rezed and buffed them so by time next tank droped they were ready to step in.
Max hit on our tanks was round 9100.

This sleepy giant seems to triple hit, and these hits are done very slowly. He also seems to have a fairly low accuracy on his attacks. However when he does get those few lucky hits, expect your lifebar to drop from 100% to 20% (or less) in less than 3 seconds. Using a shield/sword combination once defensive wears off greatly helps against Mr. Erdna. Watch out for trash repops also. He drops two Tacvi-level items from his loot table, plus some occasional giant body parts.

Max hit on 3700+ac/35% shielding tank in defensive mode is 7.5k with average hits of 3k.

You need a minimum of 18 people in your raid, in the zone, to wake him up with a hail.

here is the text for erdna when he blurs himself. make it into a audio trigger if you want a warning/sound for when he blurs himself.

He seemed to FD and fall over every 20%, resetting aggro, usually on some poor melee who didn't have attack off fast enough :)

He has an AE FD and it just happens that he can hit himself with it. We found that slowing him without debuffing his resists (no tash or malo and stuff) and he will FD himself less.

We've downed this guy a bunch of times and have yet to see the sword drop.

He does Wild Rampage (AE) and yes this sucker does hit melees for 10k sometimes.

One of the additional challenges is being in a graphically intense zone, creating much video lag for half a raid force.

his AE rampage and single target rampage are indeed mitigated and do lower damage

we were able to pull him from outside his cave (bard pulled and faded, rampage tank tagged), fought on a ledge just SW of the cave entrance, there is a corner up there for your tank if you look hard enough.

you will want the mob cornered because he has a frontal (directional) knockback AE. He seemed fairly weak.. clerics just spam healed tank. The AE/single rampage did not seem to go off very often, but seemed to become more frequent as his HP fell.

the "blur" that he does at 79 59 39 and 19 did not seem to be a factor. Bring some bards and have them play purifying chorus, His AEs all have fairly low checks.

Finally tried this guy today. Hailing him solo didn't do much but get some Zzzz message. Once we had a raid formed up(not sure how many are required) hailing him twice caused him to stand up and fight.

He avged 1400s on me at 3.1k ac with his highest hit being 7534 with 28% shielding. I have heard he hits up to 10k but I never saw one. He rampages(think single) and was slowable.

The info that would of been nice was his AEs hehe. They caught us off guard. Fired off 3 AEs:

Rage of Erdna
Sound of the Sleeping Giant I
Sound of hte Sleeping Giant II

Only got him to around 80% or so with about 15 of us. Not sure if he has any other nasty surprises as lower health.

EDIT: Should of noted that I resisted all of the AEs at 550ish resists. Guildies at around low to mid 400s were getting hit, however. So bring a bard.

Would like to get any info that I could. How hard does he hit, anything needed to activate, spells cast, strat, and what kind of guild (gear wise)should try him. Anything would be helpful.

I think he got drunk with Cordagan and is sleeping it off, wake him up and he probably is grumpy from his hangover :/.

Anyone have clues? Is it a turn in or do you say a certain phrase or kill a trigger mob?
