Poison-Making pointlessFollow

#1 Jan 15 2004 at 8:47 AM Rating: Decent
I made the first 2 poisons on the trivial list and that was painstakingly expensive and time-consuming. the effect in 3 encounters was "did something happen?"

Working through the list the interesting poisons come with trivial 70+

Working up there would be ridiculous expensive compared to spell buying or even spell researching regarding the once-per-battle effect (only primary slot working)

Can any seasoned Rogue give me advice if there's some real advance in raising this skill to 70 compared to get my tailoring to 88 or my fletching skill to 202 (which will both roughly take same time and money)??

Thanks in advance

Poison making is really only useful in the very high levels. It's pretty crippled early on; my rogue made poisons because it was in character to do so but applying and using them is so dorked up it's asinine. So, she made them and promptly sold them back to the vendor. At higher levels, and particularly the PoP recipes, poisons can deaggro and do other neat stuff.

Changes that rogues have been begging for regarding poisons: let them be stackable, even if you have to go to a shaman to get them stacked. Do away with the "sit to apply" requirement; it can take a few seconds to apply but seriously, why would you need to sit down for that? Let the rogue apply poison and zone and still use it.

It just wasn't a well planned skill from the very beginning, in my opinion, and fixing it is complicated and probably not worth it to the dev team. So, my reluctant advice would be to take it easy for now and pick it up when/if your rogue is high enough to hunt in the PoP zones before you put too much money into raising the skill.

The real reason to do them is so I can unload the poison vials my vendor has for sale.

Tailoring is all but free... up to 95 =D

Grey hopper hide + <insert pattern of choice here> = Armor of pattern type.

Trivals at 95 and hides drop of level 25ish (social) mobs in Mon Seru? Desert place off Neb lair that isnt DSP or Nexus.

Feel free to buy the hides off MY vender instead of Vials off of Jonwins'

lol

poison making would get somehow popular if with trivials 200+ one could make ARROW-poison (dose of 20 - sufficient for a stack of arrows). These poisons should be NO damage doers - just slowing, deaggroing, fear-inducing and the like.

If poisoned arrows could only be used by rogues it would give the whole class a bit more edge, sellable they would only be "no rent" I expect which would not really open a market for them - but at least poison making could pay somehow ;)
