Your thought on Elite HuntsFollow

I think a good hunt party takes more organization and focus than ST. But you're definitely right in that the actual battles in ST/Coil require for more skill, seeing as how hunt battles are just zergs.

Two main questions for you guys on this...

I pop out of an instance on SCH with someone else right on top of an A class hunt mob that proceeds to aggro me and start tearing me apart. Melee hits me for ~575 damage, special attack hits me for ~1.4k and paralyzes me.

I end up spending a good amount of time healing and curing so that I'm not dying or frozen from paralysis. Apparently a few (~8+?) so people have already gathered and one starts heckling me for pulling and "not waiting for others to come."

He then proceeds to tell me to run away.

From a hunt mob that was already hitting me with its special that takes off 1/4 of my health and paralyzes me.

Instead of trying to stay alive.

I say I'm just going to keep healing myself (and the other party member).

1. Am I being a douche, or is he? Or are we both douches?

2. What would you do in that circumstance?

And if the information matters, my Adloquium heals for ~800ish non-crit and Physic heals for around 1.1k. HP is 4.4k.

At least in Syrcus Tower and Coil you have mechanics to deal with, something to actually..take a bit of strategy even if one (ST) is easy strategy and the other takes actual organization and skill to the point of knowing the script efficiently.

This is pretty much it for me. Even when people could get top gear efficiently from collecting tomes from dungeons before 2.2, I didn't really mind it because even if the dungeons weren't overly difficult, they at least felt like you were playing a video game. Tanks still tanked, healers still healed, people at least played their jobs.

2.3 has put FFXIV in a place where by far the most rewarding content is also the most mind numbingly easy content in the game. The idea of spending several hours repeating mindless zerging in order to progress your character makes the game feel like a pure grind. I don't mind grindy games, but I'd prefer that there be some substance to the content so that it's engaging to participate in.

If they bothered to pay attention and see that, while defending yourself, the mob's HP wasn't going down, welp, they need to chill out.

Then again, zoning into death is something this game has issues with here and there, like one of the low level story quests plopping you into a mid-40's FATE full of aggro mobs if you're unlucky.

Just don't get how people are getting kills. Even in a Hunt party the mob is dead well before I can zone/travel to a called-out location.

I spent an hour or so with not a single hit on these mobs and realized I'm missing some critical element of this. Do I just need to stick with it longer? Maybe Hyperion is just exceptionally crowded.

Any tips?

I think you should have blacklisted the heckler.

It's about 50/50 for me on Lamia. That is, about 50% of the time I'll be able to get there in time for credit on a kill, and the other 50% of the time there's a "dead" while I'm still looking to hit the teleport button.

Most of the groups have been polite and held while people showed up if someone asked.
#135 Jul 22 2014 at 12:35 PM Rating: Excellent
One tip is to not even teleport do B ranks unless your party finds it or can verify its up with no one around. Otherwise you're just chasing the wind.

Chances are that hunt group was getting its information slower than some of the others.

Getting to anything more than stray B ranks (and heck, even getting a lot of those) is about how quickly you get information. There's a small chance that you can happen to come across an A rank by yourself but there's a far greater chance that one of the dozens of people running around will find it before you do, and that chance is even greater if you abstain from using third party apps. It's far more likely that you're going to see the coordinates called by someone rather than finding them yourself, so aligning yourself with the players who find and call coordinates the most quickly and consistently is going to net the best results. If information has already spread 15 seconds before it got to your particular party or linkshell, considering how quickly these things die, that can easily the the difference between getting credit and not getting there at all.

By the way, in response to this story, there was absolutely nothing wrong with what you were doing. I can't exactly tell whether hunts just attract a certain type of people, hunts bring out a certain side or people, or if it's just people being people, but I've both seen and heard stories of players acting pretty ridiculous at times in regards to this content. Even some who are simply minding their own business doing maps have been called to be blacklisted because they "didn't wait" because someone immediately jumped to the conclusion that their map mobs were a hunt. Smiley: lol

I did ask the other person I came out of the instance with later, and he nuked it to get it off of me so that I could heal. (He's BLM) So that probably influenced some of the heckling, in hindsight. Doesn't excuse the sanctimonious "Pulling the mob" whine by coming out of an instance though.

Yep, did afterwards, after some reflection.

I didn't think so. Thanks for the reinforcement.

And to be honest, I have a sneaking suspicion that maps share spawn locations with hunt mobs. We were actually at that spot before the instance because we did back to back maps right at that spot.
#141 Jul 22 2014 at 2:46 PM Rating: Excellent
I think that hunts can also spawn in places where levequests do. White Joker I know spawned in the leve territory for Gridania 1-5.

Gnu, if you really want to get into hunts, I can try to get you into my hunt linkshell network. My specific ls is full, but we have multiple connected linkshells and we're pretty good at communicating. Might be worth a shot.

Totally worth a shot. That was fun and lucrative. I went to run T7 afterwards and before we went in the whole party just up and ported to Central Thanalan for an S rank. 250+ seals in just 2-3 hours. I can see a Sands of Time in my near future. Not to mention I'm over halfway to capping Soldiery on the first night.

Thanks a ton for the tips and awesome party Thayos!

Awesome! :)

EDIT: Did you get a linkpearl? If you didn't, I can probably hook you up. I'll be online again tonight and probably right back in the thick of things.

My FC is finally getting into coil this weekend, so I'm trying to gear up as best as I can. Just hit i100 the other day, and I've got another 750 seals to upgrade another piece of gear.

No, but would like to get in, so I'll be looking for you later.

A party of 100's can take T6-T7 easily. T7 actually has very little gear/dps requirements, just attention requirements.

For myself, time to find a T8 guide and start studying.

Dude, I'm still stuck on T5. I've never been able to find a stable learning party, so I've never seen beyond divebombs.

Sad thing is, I think I'm a pretty good tank... but I simply can't ever find other people patient enough to get through content. Tried starting a static at least three times before transferring servers, and people just continued to flake out.

My new FC here will hopefully stick it out, but in the meantime, I'm pretty jaded about T5. I'm sure the fight will be much easier than finding a group has been.

Thankfully, hunts allow me to gear up and at least prepare for upcoming content despite being walled off from all the current content.

A stable learning party. Yes that is rare. I have a few groups I know that can clear that content and also willing help first time players through. I'll see what I can do.

BTW, some decent gear, and worst case with Echo built up, it's not nearly as demanding as before. We'll get you a win.

I don't mean to be a stick in the mud but is it really a good thing that people are able to obtain such high level gear so quickly and easily? A LS mate said he was able to upgrade his entire right side from just over an hour's worth of time in a hunt group. At that rate its just a waste of time to do anything but hunts. I haven't messed with it myself so I don't know how credible this is.

I've always loved hunting down monsters (was really big into hunting NMs and the monster hunt system in FFXII) but the implementation of it is incredibly lame here. I have no desire to run these at all other than to get quick currency. It just isn't fun. It isn't so much a HUNT as it is a race to see who clicks the fastest.
