[NA] FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Hotfixes (Oct. 9, 2014)
Regarding the retainer’s “quick exploration venture,†the following have been added to the list of rare items a retainer can only obtain once they are above a certain item level/gathering ability.
•pot of pure white dye
•pot of jet black dye
•pot of metallic silver
•pot of metallic gold
My level 90 marauder and arcanist better bring back that gold or silver! I know its a 1 in bajillion chance (since its a quick exploration) but one can hope.

looks like everyone gets sent 4 free pots of Gold since it had a bug with ventures not being able to obtain it

This is true. So far I have received 14 pure white pots, 4 jet black pots, 4 metallic silver pots, and 0 metallic gold pots.
But soon, gold will be the poor man's silver.
From what I could tell you have to be i80 or better to get a chance at these from ventures...
I made my guys miners since I thought it would be best to have them go gather materials for me so I don't have to go mining... which I find mind-numbingly boring. Maybe I should have made them dragoons or white mages... >.<;

You need to get gatherer retainers up to the cap recommended to do XIV field explorations in order to qualify to get the rare items from quick ventures. I accomplished this with about a million gil between them over this last weekend to speed up the hunt for dyes. I gave each of them my level 50 tool (then went and bought it back from the calamity salvager), and gave them full hq gathering gear. I used any level 41+ jewelry that had a slot free (crafting, battle, it doesnt matter as long as it has 1 slot free and is 41+). I think each piece of jewelry holds +4 gathering. The hq off hand tool holds +10 gathering, but the second meld on the hq off hand tool has a 35% chance and is the only spot where you can really fail. The hq boots, hat, gloves, belt, and body can all be capped in gathering within the allowed 100% slots. If done right, the retainers will be exactly 1 gathering over the needed mark.

You can dye someone else's gear for money, however.

An emergency all worlds maintenance scheduled to take place on October 16, 2014 had to be postponed and we deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
A new schedule for both maintenance to address the issue with quick exploration ventures where metallic gold dye will not drop and the delivery of metallic gold dye have been confirmed.
HotFix Maintenance
From Oct. 16, 2014 11:00 p.m. to Oct. 17, 2014 3:00 a.m. (PDT)
Metallic Gold Dye Delivery
Delivery will begin after the hotfix maintenance is complete.
Players will be eligible to obtain the pots of metallic gold dye by logging in to the game between the maintenance completion and Oct. 24, 2014 12:00 a.m. (PDT).
* If the number of campaign item letters has reached to its max(20 letters), then you need to make an open slot by deleting the mail and press "Reward Delivery Request" button on the Moogle Delivery Service window during the period stated above. Also please make sure to retrieve the item during this period.
