What with Texas drowning, California becoming a desert, and those uppity gays being treated human, how can you deny the end is nigh?

Metaphor. Revelation was almost certainly written as a coded message of hope to Jewish-Christians following the fall of Jerusalem and about the desired fall of the Roman Empire. It's written in symbolism that mean something if you grew up studying Judaism and sounds like freaky fantasy if you just take it literally. This doesn't mean that it wasn't inspired or that it can't hold spiritual relevance to today's readers but the notion that it's a playbook for the end of the world goes against Jesus' warning that his return will be sudden and unexpected. Playing the "So now we know that ISIS is the Horseman of War and AIDS is Pestilence and Social Security numbers are the Mark of the Beast..." game is essentially saying that you're smarter than Jesus.

Thanks.

I'm liking the "They should have left it to the states, it was heading in that direction anyway" argument. It's the same argument I keep hearing about slavery.

Starting to once again, see comments popping up about people being pissed off about legalizing SSM across the US and deciding they're moving to Canada. I wish I could see the look on their faces once they find out we already legalized it, or that we have universal healthcare. Would be good times had by all.

Wouldn't that argument require you to count the states which had SSM legalized as a result of various circuit court rulings and that this SCotUS case was intended to reverse?

You know who doesn't have SSM, universal health care and is characterized by a bunch of scrappy rebels who don't want Big Government telling them what to do? ISIS.

Is it Joseph Farah of WND? Somalia sounds like the perfect place for them to go.

Yes, it will be a war protesting Gay Rights, and not about the fact that they lost their flag.

Reuse the flag, and they can get a 2 for 1 deal on that war.

I think Scalia is advocating for affirmative action and hiring quotas:
Justice Scalia's dissent wrote:
Judges are selected precisely for their skill as lawyers;whether they reflect the policy views of a particular constituency is not (or should not be) relevant. Not surprisingly then, the Federal Judiciary is hardly a cross-section of America. Take, for example, this Court, which consistsof only nine men and women, all of them successful lawyers who studied at Harvard or Yale Law School. Four of the nine are natives of New York City. Eight of them grew up in east- and west-coast States. Only one hails from the vast expanse in-between. Not a single South-westerner or even, to tell the truth, a genuine Westerner (California does not count). Not a single evangelical Christian (a group that comprises about one quarter of Americans), or even a Protestant of any denomination.

Tony is a big fan of seemingly arbitrary 'that doesn't count' hand waves. It certainly makes his legal reasoning a lot more...well...even vaguely plausible.

I always wonder if the whole "reclaim the Judeo-Christian heritage and foundation" argument extends to killing off indigenous people, setting women who don't want to have sex with you on fire, and the abolishment of Christmas?

Justice Scalia quotes the majority opinion and condescends offers his thoughts:

Scalia wrote:
“The nature of marriage is that, through its enduring bond, two persons together can find other freedoms, such as expression, intimacy, and spirituality.” (Really? Who ever thought that intimacy and spirituality [whatever that means] were freedoms? And if intimacy is, one would think Freedom of Intimacy is abridged rather than expanded by marriage. Ask the nearest hippie. Expression, sure enough, is a freedom, but anyone in a long-lasting marriage will attest that that happy state constricts, rather than expands, what one can prudently say.)

I heard a commotion outside which I figured was rioters coming to enforce the gay marriage mandate or maybe Obama's secret gay marriage police checking for Bibles but turns out it was just a lawn mower.

I'd also say that we should totally form a protest and boycott of ZAM until it lifts the filter on "gay" but I doubt anyone would notice.
