They said clearly there will be no longer Playonline Viewer for FFXIV... now the interesting question is.... are we getting a new similar client for XI also? Is FFXI, that stupid you-know-what card game, and the JP only Majong game will migrate to the FFXIV login/pre-game system....

I believe it will be a more baked into the game system. People have always been really annoyed by first having to boot Playonline before having to boot FFXI. Probably all the features will be accessible from within the game or via web. I think they've learned their lesson and probably try to combine both services into the game. Still its still a possibility a upgraded POL will be the replacement since it is still used for billing information, server updates, etc. But they better have a launch directly into game option as much as they have a shutdown option.

Hmm, didn't they say that Friendslist was going to be transferable?

That would be interesting, cause if you were playing XIV and looked at your friendlist, and could send a message to someone playing XI, to come help with XYZ, that would be awesome.

It would also help not lose touch with the friends you made in XI, if they didn't get XIV.

EDIT: Found It

PlayOnline was built as a platform for this massive onslaught of integrated online products and services that never materialized. There's zero reason that FFXIV can't include everything that POL did in its menu screen, but a **** of a lot more efficiently. I sure hope there's no replacement.

Built-in Tetra Master would be awfully sweet though...

I think the latest addition of the SE Web Account system is a move toward what will be used in FFXIV. It makes sense now as it doesn't really do anything right now except test the integration of POL IDs to a web platform beyond the Linkshell community and FL+. They mentioned that your FFXI Friend's list will be transferable to the new game so there you have it. The first beta of the system.

I am hoping for all the POL functionality to be in game and all the account level systems to be via a SSL page. Having to be logged in to POL in order to make significant changes to your account with the added fact that Square's customer support refusing to be open on the weekends makes things a nightmare.

I am guessing that you will be able to access Mail, Friendslist, account info and subscription information via the SquareEnix Web system. However also be able to access Mail, Friendslist, Guild tools and everything else that POL does in game as well but with much better functionality.

Another interesting thing to consider is that the SquareEnix Web Account management system contains very little java and its resolution seems to fit perfectly into a PS3 web browser. It actually resembles the PSN login system a lot. So maybe this is the begining of what you will see when using the PS3 to manage your account.

If you think About it they could well make a web page based account administration due to the fact the ps3 comes with its own web browser

Excellent point Ditz. Both PC users and PS3 users will have access to a internet browser. Therefore all management, content id, and etc can be done via their own secure webpage.

I want mahjong ><.

Anyway, most MMO's allready let you do everything from in-game, or atleast a log-in screen.

I wonder if they will have a built in web browser mostly. Like what the playstation network allready has. Eve has done it, and it was really helpfull.

Guess we will wait and see.
