Which City will you choose?
Limsa Lominsa :20 (19.8%)
Gridania :48 (47.5%)
Ul'Dah :33 (32.7%)
None, I choose to rough it! :0 (%)
Total:101

I'm going to pick Gridania, and first thing I'm going to do is learn the city and where everything is. I want to learn about all the crafting guilds, (if there are any) and everything the city has to offer! After that, I hope to explore the land.

How about you?

Ul'Dah - find the nearest tavern and set up camp.

Gridania for sure. It seems the closest thing to Windy and I loved the description given on the official site. First thing I'll do is try to hook up with friends who'll be hopefully starting on the 22nd too.

Well since I will start playing Thaumaturge, I will start in Ul'Dah.

I'll be choosing either Gridania or Ul'dah. I was a heavy explorer in FFXI as I went places I'm sure nobody else had yet visited at the time. If FFXIV gives the same abilities to explore I'll probably do that a lot but the very first thing I'll do is probably try out combat.

I started in Bastok last time and the drabness really got to me after awhile, so I'm looking for a prettier surrounding this time around. However, it will also depend on if I can get anyone to play with me on/around the 22nd.

That sounds epic. I hope there is a new Rabao. Loved the music, loved the fisherman, loved the padded caps carp.

Gridania for me.

As for what I'll do first, probably just wander around the city. Take everything in so to speak. After that I suppose I'll make my way to the newby area and find some local wild life to punch in the face...or rather have them bite my face off as I'm sure there will be some blood thirsty bunnies hanging around.

Not really sure where I want to start. Which city would cater to casters more? Specifically healers. First thing I'll be doing, regardless of where I start, is finding out where I can get experience and start killing things!

Gridania, since it seems much like Windy, and i <3 me some Windy, if the music and atmosphere is half of what it was ill feel right at home. After i first log in and wonder around town for a bit and see how things are, ill head out and kill some stuff gain a lvl or two hopefully, then look into crafting. As of the knowledge we have now i plan on being a lalafell conjurer and prolly pick up either cooking or woodworking.

these 2 months are gonna drag on forever...

Either Gridania or Ul'dah, haven't decided yet.

Gridania because it fits the theme of a Ranger/Archer.

Ul'dah because my hometown in XI was Bastok, and the desert will likely remind me of S Gustaberg somewhat and make me feel more "comfortable" when leveling low level classes.

It will depend a lot on the music. Ronfaure had an absolutely beautiful BGM. I can't imagine having to train all my low level classes in an area with crappy music. x')

Also I don't like deserts, so I'll probably go for Limsa Lominsa or Gridania. Gridania doesn't seem very impressive yet, though, whilst Limsa has some huge buildings.

Well, I plan on starting in Gridania as I liked to play a Wildwood Elezen Archer. But I'm not sure if you'll have the complete freedom to choose where you start as I've seen character creations that only allow them to start in a certain city. And the first thing I'm gonna do is just run around town to get the hang of the controls and learn were everything is at. Now this might change as soon as I figure out how to shoot something with my bow. LOL.

Roegadyn and start in Limsa Lominsa.

Port City focus on Blacksmithing and Fishing. Sounds like Bastok to me! Also known for it's ship building, so I'm going out on a limb and guessing you will find Cid here.

First thing, talk to the gate gaurds and figure out if there is a signet equivalent!

o.O
I thought Limsa Lominsa was going to be the 'new' San d'Oria and everyone would have piled on there, but it's looking now like Gridania will be.

Early on, I was trying to decide between Ul'Dah and Gridania (LL, while pretty, had never really appealed to me), but now, I'm almost set on Ul'Dah because I want to be one of the desert Lalafell and Ul'Dah is in the desert region.

I'm hoping for a more even split among the cities if things like Conquest are going to be in the game again.

Not sure what city I want to start in yet.

As for what I want to do first.. I'm not sure how many other people do this but the first thing I normally do with a new game, especially RPG type games, is look though all the menu/UI screens the game has. That might sound boring to some but I love looking through everything on the UI before I get into the gameplay.

That basically includes:
-Going through all the game/video/sound settings and a brief look at the controls.
-Then I like to look through all the UI screens; things like inventory, stats page, abilities/skills, macros etc etc..

After I do all that I actually start to play the game :D
Anyone else like this?

It's going to be a tough choice for me. I love forests so I'm leaning towards Gridania. But Dalmasca and it's surrouning areas from FFXII have me looking forward to see what they do with Ul'dah. FFXII completely changed my veiw on desert areas which I used to think were boring.

Limsa Lominsa

And from the poll result i would say that i get the opportunity to explore since it seems the least popular starting area ;)
From what I've read from all towns this appeals to me the most, and always handy to have the fishers guild nearby.

First going to figure out the controls, go to every option to see what it does. After that fishing of course!! and then some monster hunting. Was more a crafter then a leveler in FFXI so probably will be the same in FFXIV. As a crafter Limsa Lominsa looks like a good starting place.

Couldn't agree more. Sometimes I would leave my game on while I sat near the gate in Ronfaure while I fell asleep. That was until I realized people always ran to the zone with orcs.

I was planning to stay true to the galka by going with the hellsguard roegadyn which fits with Ul'dah. This is the plan if what they say about 'minimal-to none' stat differences based on race is true. Or else I may try the Hyur this time around...

1st thing after getting comfortable with the controls will probably be to wander the town talking to whatever NPCs I find...learning some things, perhaps flagging some quests. Then when I can't take it any longer I'll have to run outside and start fighting the 1st mobs I find...

Noticed on the info at very bottom of game info on main site in small print that they will charge $3 for each additional character and $1 for each retainer whatever that is? I played multiple characters on Xi and more than likely do it here. Just food for thought.

I'm planning on Gridania it just sounds like eye candy. Gonna explore town and then go out and shoot stuff with my Archer. Fishers Guild may not be there but I want to see what I can catch in the rivers.

I'll start wherever the cloth crafting guild is. I want to play a mage and I want to do a lot of crafting, so cloth crafting is a good one to start with.

Or if Hyur are restricted to a certain city, then I'll start there.

I'm making two accounts so I have more a dilemma of which city to NOT start in. My main is probably Ul'Dah mainly because I like the look of the concept art a lot and plus its really not a 'desert' surrounding. Its a Savanna so the surrounding area is more similar to Windurst then Gustaberg. (Looks closer to a combination of Tahronghi and Sarutabaruta then the dry wasteland that is Gustaberg). I also plan to start as Thamauterge so having the guild there is a plus, and also I want to make my own cloth gear so having the weavers guild there is also helpful. Plus Im sure with how much easier traveling is going to be, it really won't matter where you start because it won't be long where you setup camp whereever you desire to level currently. Airships and Teleports are going to make it easy to be whereever you need to be.

Having said that if I had to choose a second location to start in its probably Limsa Lominsa. There is something tranquil about a city on the sea and I hope SE doesn't disappoint with the wave sound effects to imitate that quality. Its really a 'tough' decision but in the end its a decision you really won't worry about several years later.

Have a wander round the city, then go and find a rabbit to sacrifice myself to a few times.
I have fond memories of sneaking my level 1 mules to Jeuno, with all the hiding and panicking, so each time I log out I'll see how far I can get before I get eaten.
I'm looking forward to taking in a whole new world and will be like a kid in a sweetshop, not knowing where to start.

I honestly can't say which city I'll pick but I do know what I'll do first.

I'm going to find the best means of making Gil that I can and stock pile it. Then I'm going to level(or whatever the blazes it's called) on a cheap budget. Yes I'm going to be that noob with the basic gear. Once I max out on whatever class I choose I'm going to craft, craft and craft some more. I'll be a gillionaire in no time at all.

I really do hope that there is no limit on the crafts you can pick. I always wanted to level all the crafts in FFXI but you would have to create mules to do so. I also started very late in the game when it comes to crafting. Not this time though, I plan on building a crafting empire.

Not sure yet which city I'll start in.

I'll spend my first day walking around the city where I'll talk to every single NPC, noting their name, location, and anything else about them. I'll check out all the shops, while noting their stock and prices. I'll spend some time in the guilds and get to know how all that works. After all that...hmm...I'd like to think I'd run outside and start leveling, but after all that work I'll probably pour a beer and start talking to other players.
