You ****** Osarion, You beat me to it. Can you delete or lock my other thread?

Also, is this some sort of sign that the contest is shenanigans? Or will Open Beta be some ridiculously short amount of time?

Sounds good.

Off topic for a moment. Where can I find the background they are using for their twitter page?

Just so I make sure to get in...

I applied back in December '09 for the beta... of course, no luck yet...

Would it be smart to reapply on the SE site with the updated computer specs?

This may seem ignorant, but where does one sign up for this? The thing that ends the 16th I mean?

Is it by clicking the "Register Now" button on http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/

And then you fill out your e-mail etc?

Do we need to re-apply for Open Beta, or will our original Beta application still be in effect?

I don't think it will hurt. I think it just voids your previous application.

Did any one else have a choice that forced them to select what kind of web site they own? Nowhere in the beta application did it ask me if I actually owned a web site, but the final question asked me which kind I owned, (game related, FFXIV related, non game related, etc) and it's a required question.

I told them that I own ESPN.com

I do remember that. I forget what I chose as there was no way around the question.

Yeah, the question is a part of the app. I didn't get it either. I'm don't remember what my response was (applied for beta as soon as applications were up, and still no access >_< ). I used to have a website, so I think that's what I answered.

So....

Does this mean that once Beta 3 is done, all applicants for Beta testing will then be allowed to participate in Open Beta?

Doesn't this kind of make the Beta giveaways pointless? If they are going to open up Beta after the 16th, and the giveaways are extended until the 16th, aren't we just winning access to open Beta?

The 16th is when the beta application period ends, not when the open beta begins.

I'm confused about reapplying - I've heard they have chosen people with computers that can't run the game - my application was made using specs from a computer that can't run the game... should I reapply with my new specs?

Or does that void me entirely?

If you reapply the new application overwrites the old one, so if you have better specs now, go ahead and reapply.

Doesnt open beta mean...open?

We still have to "win" to get into an open beta?

Forgive my ignorance as ive never been in a beta before but open beta sounded to me like you should just be able to use it.

Yeah, I always thought "Open Beta" has always meant that anyone can play, assuming they have the hardware to do so, at least that's what the cool companies do.

I know 2 people who got into one of the betas but their computers wouldn't run the game, though one told me after they updated the game it not runs on his comp.

EDIT: My brain got a head of my fingers and I left a few things out, lol

No, "Open Beta" does not mean anyone can play. This is a more recent misconception that has come up.

"Open Beta" means the NDA is lifted, where "Closed Beta" means it is still enforced. As always, companies are allowed to restrict players in any way they choose.
