Can I transfer files from one PC to another?Follow

Both my husband and I have beta. I've had it longer than him, so I've got everything but the latest updates.

After I opened ports on my PC, I was able to download everything in about 4 hours. However, opening ports on his has done nothing - 10 local connections and 0 remote, so he's showing 22 hours.

Can I transfer the files from my pc to his, and if so, would I just transfer the folder Square Enix/Final Fantasy XIV Beta Version? If I can do this, should I then also delete certain files in that folder so his PC doesn't have my character data?

You can transfer the data file over, but not the installed folder. The character data is stored online, not on your computer, so that won't be a problem either.

Sorry, but I don't know what you mean by data folder vs. installed folder.

Basically you can transfer files that you haven't yet installed. If you try to transfer files that have already been installed it wont do anything because an installed game is more than the files you see in the folders .

It would be possible to transfer FFXIV files over to your computer if you can find the actual files used to install the game...I don't know where those are though...which I suppose is a benefit of using a torrent since you know exactly where they are, the FFXIV downloader does everything automatically.

You can absolutely transfer the files between computers. The downloader will then do the rest creating the relevant file associations.

How I did it!

1) Download the "downloader" onto the computer that you want to transfer the files to but dont then download the beta files
2) Copy the files in the my documents folder (it is a path including my documents/downloads/final fantasy xiv for me.
3) Copy the files in the "program files (x86)" folder.

You need the file structure on the machine you are copying to to match the originating machine exactly.

Run the downloader on the machine you have copied the files to and your computer will do the rest.

Before anyone else says this cant be done as I have read elsewhere - trust me, I did it and it worked absolutely fine. Most people that have failed to do this have not copied the folder in "my documents" to exactly the same file structure.

Oh, and by the way - I did this between a computer using windows 7 to a computer using Windows vista.
