Yea, if you didn't connect a cable between your graphics card and your monitor. . you need to do that >.>

If your graphics card has a VGA output you can plug it into your monitor and it will work. On some monitors that have multiple inputs [vga + dvi + HDMI] you may need to manually select which input you would like to use. There should be a button on the monitor to do this.

However, DVI is a digital signal and superior to VGA, so if you have a DVI connection on both your graphics card and your monitor, I would highly recommend removing the VGA cable and using DVI instead. HDMI is superior to DVI, so if both sides have an HDMI connector, that'd be your best shot.

I've read that HDMI isn't superior to DVI in terms of visual, but the reason it's better is due to its ability to transmit audio as well.

Is this false?

Thats correct, HDMI and DVI are equal for image quality. But HDMI can also carry high def audio, like Dolby/DTS soundtracks, etc.
