Question about Jobs...Follow

So I started a Gladiator and got him to lvl 5 (not putting a whole lot since it's just open beta - but do want to get used to things if I decide to get it.); now I heard if I just equip other jobs weapons and tools I would start that job. So I did I chose a miner.

I guess I don't understand how to mine with him... cause all I was able to do is get some quests 'To the Copper', yet I don't see any nodes to mine... and the attacking with him blows (throwing a rock).

So my questions are:
How can I (if possible) switch back to Gladiator, cause trying to equip the sword does nothing and won't allow me to...?

Also where do you go to get new skills?
When I was a gladiator I was hoping to get more moves or abilities instead the basic attack. I walked all the way down to ULD in hopes for a trainer in Gladiator Guild.

Where can I get some blasted weapons and armor... I mean I couldn't find a basic ol shield...?

Trying going back to passive mode(default key is F). That is probably the reason why you can't equip your sword again.

Also try looking at the skills menu. I can't remember the exact word, but if I remember correctly, it is Action & Traits. Go to the little pop-up bar that is above the list of actions (you'll probably only find <Unequip> there for now), then switch to Miner.

You should be starting with Lay of the Land. This is the skill that'll allow you to seek out other mineral nodes for you to mine.

EDIT:

You'll also be able to find your other Gladiator skills through that menu by clicking Gladiator in that pop-up bar.

Look for sparkles on rocks. Walk up to them with your mining tools equipped (the pick axe for the BIG shinny spots and the sledge in your off-hand for the tiny sparkles) when you get close the action bubble will show up. Interact just like you would a aether point.

Yes, you are correct you just need to re-equip your sword. You are probably in active mode. Switch to passive mode. Keep in mind you ALWAYS have to have something in your main hand. You cannot remove it, then equip your sword. You simply swap weapons.

Kill things and gain levels. Once you get a few levels check the actions and abilities (pretty sure thats the name of it) section in the main menu.

Check vendors, but keep in mind most vendors in FF generally only sell the starting stuff at any reasonable price. You are always better off buying from players.

You get more abilities by levelling up.
When you level up, you get the skills automatically. You can assign them to your hotbar by accessing the 'actions and traits' section under the main menu.

There's no reason to fight a mob as a miner. Simply switch back to your gladiator.

You can set weapon change macros from the main menu -> configuration -> macros... so that you don't have to do it manually.

At the vendor they are ~45k You get 30k for completing the first quest) players are selling the same shield for 20k on my server. Far from expensive.

And you can get one as a reward from leves.
