One of the funnest games in a very long time, offline or on. I currently have a 50 PLD, 30 WHM, and 20 THM and have had so much fun playing this game. It is more Final Fantasy-y than many recent offline entries to the series, the story (if paid attention to) is actually pretty engaging, and the world is very large and diverse with amazing sights to see.

Note to self: Do not let it consume you.

Hahaha, nice XI reference. Glad they didn't go that route in this one though. Now their slogan is "escape reality, live the fantasy" lol. They encourage it !

This really is the first FF game I've truly enjoyed in about a decade. It's so good, I'm not mad at SE, anymore. I forgive them for regurgitating FFXIII, eating it and then regurgitating it again and again.

Totally agree, I'm having a blast.

A HUGE difference is that I feel like I can afk at a moment's notice in XIV, but not so much in XI. Now if my wife or children need me, I come immediately, but (I'm ashamed to admit this actually) I did not when I was hardcore into XI. In XI I always felt like either I was going to die, the party was going to die, the mission would be failed, the NM would pop and I'd miss it, I'd miss a shout for something I needed, etc, etc. Sky, Sea, Dynamis LS events seemed to require minimum of 3 hours of total concentration, sure lots of downtime, but extended afk and you'd miss out it seemed. In XIV, I'll do a FATE, afk, come back do a few more, afk, do a leve, afk, etc, etc. Still getting things done in game, still being a responsible father/husband. Win, Win!

I love the duty finder especially. I feel like the game so far has been really casual. I have logged in when I had a couple hours to kill and in that time frame finished up the CNJ questline, did a dungeon or two possibly (thanks to DF), and some other stuff. Very easy to get in, have fun, and get out.

I have to agree with you here. Even though I have not progressed as far, I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I have spent on the game. This is after ragequitting 1.0 after a few weeks of play with the initial release. I have to say they really turned this game around. I hope it gets better and better.

With the possible exception of work, none of the rest of the things listed here are that important.

Let's not be silly, pets are animals, they can forage for food.

I can honestly say FFXIV was done about as close to perfection as anyone can make an online RPG. The key here is making sure people can do stuff in a short time frame without completely abandoning those who have time to do things like dungeon runs and multiparty boss fights. There's a reason it's compared favorably to Guild Wars 2: we can get as much done before leaving for work as we could the whole day on XI (pre-Abyssea).

Thats along they lines of a beer commercial after showing 30 seconds of craziness saying "Drink Responsibly" or a crack dealer saying moderation.
